Abnormal Ground Conditions:
‍
‍
Relief from ‘cracks in the ground’: In hot and dry conditions, the fairways of a course may suffer due to cracks in the ground.
‍
Interference occurs if the lie of a ball rests in such a crack or if the abnormal ground condition unfairly affects the player's stance. In which case relief is allowed and the ball can be lifted and dropped in accordance with Rule 25-1b(i).

French Drains: If stance is impeded or the ball lies on a drain both on the Fairway and in the Rough, the ball MUST be lifted and dropped in accordance with Rule 25-1b(i). The ball may be cleaned when lifted under the Rule 25-1b(i).

Relief from Tree Roots: If a player's ball lies in the general area and there is interference from exposed tree roots that are in part of the general area cut to fairway height or less or in the rough within two club lengths of the area cut to fairway height or less, the tree roots are treated as ground under repair. Free relief is available under Rule 16.1b.

Interference does not exist if the tree roots only interfere with the player's stance. Ground under repair: Any area listed above as well as any area clearly marked on the course. Free relief given under Rule 16.1.
